Home remedies for sensitive teeth

If having a cold drink or biting a hot meal makes you feel pain, then you have sensitive teeth. The nerve damage can promote this condition, but the root cause is usually the loss of enamel or gingival recession. Fortunately, there are several home remedies for sensitive teeth.

Desensitizing toothpaste
Try brushing with a commercial toothpaste formulated to desensitize teeth. These pastes contain strontium chloride or potassium nitrate as an active ingredient. Either help block the discomfort created by tooth’s nerve. Although these pastes can not replace the loss of enamel or compensate the recession of the gums, the active ingredients accumulate in similar channels in your dentin tubules and act as a temporary filling.

Night treatment
Besides regular brushing with desensitizing toothpaste, sometimes it helps spread some of the same stuff on sensitive areas just before bedtime. The secret of success is to avoid the traditional use of rinse to let the dough to work while you sleep. Practicing this habit every night significantly reduce the sensitivity of your teeth in a few weeks.

Brush more often
This home remedy is simple, but its effectiveness can not be stressed too much. Ideally, you should brush your teeth at least twice a day, especially after meals and before bedtime. The main reason for doing this is to remove plaque before it has a chance to harden and promote tooth decay. However, during the time between meals, beverages and brushing your teeth, plaque releases an acid that increases the sensitivity of the teeth even more.

Choose something soft
It is tempting to think that a hard toothbrush bristles do a better job of cleaning your teeth. The same applies to the application of excess pressure. The truth is that the hard washing or the use of a stiff bristle brush can damage the enamel and cause the gums recede leading to tooth sensitivity. So opt for a soft bristle toothbrush and let the tool do its job without using excessive force.

Use the floss regularly
