There are several types of carrots, either by length or shape. Some are long, intermediate, short, rounded, cylindrical, flattened end and tapered. The three main types of carrots are great to eat raw and cooked, elongated and thin they are for packing and last longer and sweets are for fresh consumption. The soil needed for growing carrots must light but deep slime that does not dry too quickly. We do not recommend that you put fresh manure, because it makes roots grow improperly. What we can do is put a manure of well fertilized soil in about two weeks before planting the carrots at the rate of 70g per m2. The main root must enter the soil, so the soil must be well fertilized to a certain depth.
If you want to plant carrots in a drawer or nursery, if you have a hot drawers, round sow carrots in January, however, if the drawer is cool sow seed in mid-February.
If you want to plant in the home garden, you have to start in March until July, if you’re in the northern hemisphere, and if you’re in the southern hemisphere, will have to add 6 months.
Make intermediate main crop plantings in May or early June. Long carrots must be planted in May as the deadline for sowing in the open, stop between 20-23 cm between rows, for varieties of carrot Shorthorn and 25-30 cm for major crops. The seeds must be put to an inch deep. If control plots will be used by area about 80 g of seeds, leaving the short distance between plants 15-20 cm.
On many occasions you can leave thinning until the roots are large enough for consumption, but we recommend that you make a preliminary thinning of 2-5 cm
If you live in a dry place, you have to water the rows thoroughly before lighten. Then you push with your feet all the soil and water it again. One thing you have to do is to collect prematurely rows of main crop, because this would encourage carrot flies, because these flies lay eggs in the holes left.
To collect carrots, lift the roots of main crop in late October. With the help of a small shovel or pitchfork, free the roots before pulling them and clean well the rest of land. Cut the roots to about 13 mm crown. Separate all damaged or cracked carrots for consumption.
